F3L Draft Press Release By SyPhi - Draft Manager
As of yesterday evening, I (SyPhi)
am officially the manager of the F3L's inaugural Draft.
F3L Draft '02 will NOT be Friday, August 9, 2002 - 9:00 Central Time.
However, this date is important for a few reasons, to be explained later.
I am completely redo-ing the way the draft is to be done, you might have received a preview of my ideas when I e-mailed most of you (Mike Rhodes' e-mail hasn't been working) my suggestions. Here is the current draft setup, subject to change.
F3L Draft '02 will be a process, so bear with me as I reveal several important dates:
The first date is Friday, August 9, 2002, will serve two purposes:
1) This will be the date of the lottery, taking place at 12 Noon CDT (1 pm ET). The lottery will determine the draft order. However, like in the NBA, where the worse teams have more chances in the draft, there will be teams with more chances in the lottery than others. Everyone will receive one (1) base level chance in the draft. One (1) bonus chance will be given to both the Iowa Mad Cows and St. Louis Stallions, whose owners rightfully claim this league as their own brainchild. Also, one (1) bonus chance will be given to the first 8 signees of the league, for it is not exactly fair to the former top few drafters, who now feel the proverbial rug pulled out from under them.
Using this chance-determining system, the number of chances per team will be as follows:
Iowa, St Louis - 3
Cleveland, Stratford, Fargo, Toronto, West Michigan, Columbus - 2
Napa Valley, Space City, Wisconsin, Erie, Winnipeg, Anchorage, Seattle, Moose Jaw - 1
The lottery will be held in this way: 26 coloured strips of paper* will be put into a hat, and the colour list will be sent to two owners from the F3L, Greg (Erie) and Chris (Toronto), who will then corroborate in assigning each team a colour. I will be unaware of which team has been assigned which colour when I systematically draw 1 slip out at a time. I will announce the colour to the 2 owners (likely via MSN Instant Messenger), who will then in turn tell me which team has been picked, and I will compile the list.
The list will be posted on the website, as well as e-mailed to all following the lottery.
I am taking great pains to ensure that this lottery process is unbiased, and that there will be no need for finger-pointing at whoever gets the #1 selection.
The Draft Order that is selected through the use of the Lottery will be known as Draft Order 1. The complete reversal of that order will result in the creation of Draft Order 2.
2) This will also be the date when all scouting must end, and the final Official Draft Scouting Reports must be completed. A template for the Official Scouting Report is attached to this e-mail, and it is crucial that every spot is filled. A list of all Available Players for the Draft is also attached, and is the official list of all the players that can be used to fill slots in the Official Scouting Report. These slots must be filled, and the document renamed [Team City] [Team Nickname] Official Scouting Report (ex. Winnipeg WinterHawks Official Scouting Report.
You may consult a similar list existing at this location: www.fftoolbox.com/cheatsheet.html. All of the Available Players for the Draft are ranked here.
If I do not receive a team's Official Scouting Report by Midnight CDT, Friday, August 9, 2002, or an e-mail giving a reasonable explanation as well as a date and time when the Report will be in, I will be forced to use the list at www.fftoolbox.com/cheatsheet.html as a replacement. No changes to an Official Scouting Report will be possible after Midnight CDT, Friday, August 9, 2002. Please, do not let this happen to you: take the time to compile your own list.
The second important date is set for Wednesday, August 14, 2002.
Pnding a TV deal within the next few days, F3L Draft '02 will take place on this date at 8:30 pm CDT (check local listings for time information in your area). The draft announcements will occur through a Live Chat via the F3L Website. Access the Live Chat at http://pub12.bravenet.com/chat/show.php?usernum=999160786&cpv=1.
Draft announcements will occur every 30 seconds or so, and with 160 draft announcements to make, the draft should last approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. To be on the safe side, make sure you free up between 8:30 pm CDT until 10:00 pm CDT.
If a certain team owner is not present, the draft will continue, however you will have to wait until the full draft recap is released in order to find out who you managed to select.
The Draft will go as follows:
The first round will commence when the team with the #1 Pick in Draft Order 1 will select a player, any position. Then the rest of the teams will select a player of the same position. (for example, if #1 Pick is Marshall Faulk, the rest of the round is devoted to Starting RB's).
The second round will commence when the team with the #1 Pick in Draft Order 2 will select a player, any position. Then the rest of the teams will select a player of the same position.
Then the cycle will repeat
Selections will be pre-determined via the Official Scouting Reports, however the order in which each Positions will be selected will not be predetermined.
This system will result in each team selecting 2 QBs, 2 RBs, 3, WRs, 1 TE, 1 K, and 1 Team D.
This draft will not completely fill all of the player slots on your team, however it will fulfill the requirements to field a team in the F3L. The 4 spots that remain can be filled via Free Agency, following the NFL's final cutdown day. This will also be done via the Live Chat, and each team must have filled out their roster following this free agency period, temporarily scheduled for Sunday, September 1, 2002.
